What happened to Indian football Coach Thilakan in Bahrain?
For three weeks in February this year, a 60-year-old football coach was reported missing. He was found dead on Feb. 28 at the Hidd Bridge.
“I was on way back home after work when I saw a police patrol at the Hidd Bridge at around 12:30 pm. And, on finding a CPR from his pocket we found that the body was Thilakan’s,” a resident told DT News.
There was no way to determine the cause of death of Coach Ondayankaryan Thilakan since the body was fairly decomposed. Latheesh Bharathan, Managing Director of Indian Talent Academy said, “I have informed the family about Thilakan, but we still don’t know what happened or how his body ended up in Hidd."
The police FIR give the cause of death as a suicide, probably given that the body was found hanging. However, a postmortem study is still necessary to confirm this.
The Indian coach's 23-year-old daughter, Darshana, said that the family had no reason to believe he had committed suicide. She was waiting to join her father in the same company he worked for.
"We need to know what happened to him," she said. "He was a mentally strong person. He never told us about anything that was worrying him; the financial problems we had was not a reason for him to end his life. Where was he for almost a month and is it my father's body that was found?"
Friends of the coach said that he had not being paid his salary for the past few months.
The coach worked as sports trainer with Indian Talent Academy, Zinj. He was a state-level football player in Kerala where, for more than 20 years, he was part of the Travancore Titanium team.
